Just an observation

When put together, the male immediately trys to climb along the female to breed, however he is only successful when he stays on the other side of the cage with only his tail inter-twined with hers. The picture below was moments before copulating occured

most of the time when our Coxi breed, they will be in two separate hide spots a foot away from each other, with only the tails coming out and meeting (literally) in the middle...

This behavior has also been observed in Tiger Rat Snakes...it is theorized that this is a defense mechanism so that if confronted with a predator (in the wild of course), the 2 snakes can leave in opposite directions quickly.
