drzrider Mar 27, 2005 06:23 PM

NC is trying to pass a law stating that Water and Croc. monitors, Boidae that can grow to over 8 feet, caimen, and many more animals are illegal.

I know there are other of you that read this forum that live in NC. I knew this was happening in other States, but not NC. What is the world coming to?

I haven't researched everything yet, but I have enclosed info I have gatherd from other forums. I wanted to post it here ASAP.

Thanks Boa and Python forums!!!

They passed a similar bill for New York in january, except they even banned one of the better pet monitors, the black throats and white throats. It's a shame. But, it's been a few monthes, and they've already forgotten all about it. Most local reptile shops still have baby burms and monitors up for sale. The only problem I think that they will run into (as mentioned before) is that some vets will want to cover their asses by turning in any of the banned reptiles that they treat. Of course, I'm sure there are plenty of good vets out there that will help you out. I just don't like the idea of them being illegal.

Be that as it may, I think we should still fight to not have this bill become a law, and if that works we can focus on having the NY ban changed to exclude the boids and monitors (or possibly make them legal to own, breed, purchase, and sell if you have a permit).

Its their vote and voices that make a difference. The NY ban proved that, people from all over the world tried to stop it by mailing and emailing their opinions etc, but I believe NYers didnt get involved enough. Of course maybe they did, and the results shined through. Who knows.
