Indigo found in Val Verde county! Shout out to Joe Forks!!!

antelope Mar 27, 2005 08:20 PM

This weekend work took me to Del Rio and I finished early Friday, sent the crew back to Corpus, and headed for a scouting trip to alterna land in anticipation of a June trip, my first out west. Long story short, flipped a Texas indigo under a slag piece of concrete about a mile from Amistad N. R. area Rough Canyon R road 2. It rained in front of the cold front that blew through but the sun came out early so the temp was way cool but the sun burned off the clouds and it cleared enough to warm up. This juvenile was basking with about 4" of his head exposed and I saw him pull back under out of the corner of my eye and thought Central Texas whipsnake but it was very familiar....I've found many erebennus south and east but this was west Texas and although I beleived the report of them from out west this turned out, for me, proof positive. It was in shed and very parisitized, about 2 1/2' long and spit up a bit of water. I photoed it and replaced it under the slag. Should I contact Sul Ross U. with an exact location? Or who would trustworthily verify this sighting? I am in the same boat as Joe I guess with no one present to verify the sighting. Any way, Just thought someone might want to know. Dry habitat with wet microhabitat= erebennus out west. Lajitas isn't that far.

Hi Todd,
Nice find! I've sent you an e-mail.

Also, I had sent you an e-mail a while back concerning a friend that lives down the road from you in Tivoli. Nothing serious, he just wanted to hook up with you and flip some tin since you two live so close.

Check your e-mail.

Best
Joe
