Yet more problems.....

BRYAN139 Mar 27, 2005 08:35 PM

Ok, now I'm having problems heating the revised design of my rack. I have 11" heat tape running back heat. I have the back lined with reflectix and also put reflectix on the under side of the very bottom. I have the probe by the very bottom row of tubs. I just can't get the lower tubs to heat good. For the lower tubs to reach 86 degrees my upper tubs are running over 100! I understand heat rises, but that seems like an awful lot of heat rising. So how do I get around it. How do I get my lower tubs to reach an acceptable level without my upper tubs being good for nothing but desert iguanas? I'm getting pissed. I'm about to spend a night soldering my butt off and running belly heat for each tub individually. Anybody got any ideas?

You need more heat down low and less heat up high.

You might try and incorporate some of the prewired Hagen heat wave, flex watt pads into your rack. They come in 8" x 8", 10" x 11" and 11" x 17" pads.

Maybe run your flexwatt tape down low and then smaller pads up high or vice versa.

I would do one of two things to remedy it.

Either incorporate belly and back heat into the bottom row of tubs to help up the heating surfaces, or I would wire a rheostat into the top heat tape to help keep it cooler then the lower row..

Good luck with it.

Adding a seperate t-stat for the bottom row. But I have the probe down there now and I'm still having trouble getting to hold around 85-86 degrees. I'm think I'm going to have to add a strip of belly heat to make it work. I'm considering going all belly heat but I really don't feel like making that many connections.

If you wire them in par. you can run them off of one lead. But then you will still have to wire it..lol.. You dont have to solder, you could use the clips and it will save time for sure.. Just a thought...
