Lost Gecko

cti746 Mar 27, 2005 08:41 PM

I was taking a bath today and I usually let My adult male gecko run around on the floor. I was watching him when he shot under the door. I got out, caught him and stuffed a towel under the door. I layed down to wash my hair and when I got out, he was gone. I looked ALL over!! I can't find him anywhere. usually if a reptile gets lost inside, I find them pretty quickly. But the cats are loose and my first gecko died of a cat fang through the skull. He was seriously starting to shed. I am really worried.

Hey if you have "cupboards" like this in your bathroom....check this place. It's very easy for a leo to climb over the face plate or that small wooden face plate and crawl under your cupboards. I almost gaurantee he is in there, I learned the hard way

*Instructions for a "modified" Hampster trap*

1) get a large bucket
2) coat about 1" inside hte rim with butter
3) get a brick and put some crickets on a clear container
4) lay the bucket on an angle on the brick
5) set the crickets in the container at the bottom

ok, so that was over simple...but the point is that the gecko goes in after the crickets, but due to the angle and butter on the bucket they cant get out. although you have to make a ramp or something to make sure he can get in in the first place. in theory it should work, and it worked for me when my hampster got out (hampsters...geckos, same thing right??)
You might want to put your kitties away (in a room as far away from the bathroom as possible, or failing that a large box...) for a while. my cat always watches my geckos when they are out, and thats the last thing you should have to worry about right now.
Good luck finding him! dont give up hope, there have been lots of stories about geckos surviving for months after escaping

I stuck a heating pad in a dark corner of the living room (this is the room where the cage is) and put a piece of wood on top of it (extra wood from the tank). I found her about 2 days after i lost her!
