Plastic Paneling.

Hi there,

I have been searching many of the online plasitcs distributors and manufacturers for a product which Habitat Systems appears to be using for their enclosures and racks, which is virtually the same material as the white pvc fences that seem to be very popular nowadays. I think they refer to it as 'hollow core' pvc. Has anybody ever come across large sheets of this material? Thanks in advance, take care.

Travis

I stumbled across it in an agricultural catalog once and have not seen it since. Unfortunately I don't know what company it was. It was extremely expensive. I'm guessing Habitat Systems buys it in bulk.

The stuff that Jeremy mentioned from SDplastics is different unless I'm navigating their site wrong.

I suppose a Menards could carry it although I've never seen it there before. It certainly was not at any of the three stores in the towns where I've lived recently.

Good luck and let us know if you find it.

Chris,

That plastic that Habitat uses comes from a place that makes it for agricultural use. Apparently they're the only company that produces the stuff that Habitat uses. I considered trying to build some cages with the same material but decided against it for many reasons. We have some Habitat cages at the WDC, but looking at them and the stuff I've seen at shows - for the materials and construction methods, they're WAY overpriced. The joints on the front are mitered and then fastened using a plastic plate that looks like similar material to FRP board and the whole thing is attached with pop rivets. It has a very cheap, slapped together look to it. The only thing I find good about them is that the material seems to work well for large size cages. But then again, judicious use of square aluminum tubing and some Sintra and you could probably acheive the same results with a nicer looking end product and probably cheaper.
