queston on worming

casey31179 Mar 27, 2005 09:17 PM

I want to worm all my torts just to be on the safe side. As I have never done it. I am ordering some Panicure (AKA safegaurd) What I am wondering is what's the dosage and what is the best way to administer it. Thank You!

Your reptile veterinarian is the person to ask. While many deworming drugs have a wide margin of safety I still find it disturbing that they can be bought without a prescription. Improper dosing does more harm than good. Since you seem rather health conscious about your torts, I hope I've given you something to consider. (your deworming product may not go to waste, as your vet prescribe this one anyways)

Another thing to consider is that deworming medication is often meant for horses and cattle, and thus come in very high concentrations. If this is the case, proper dilution is a must.

Have fun with your tortoises
