jackson pregnant or not

matt15 Jul 09, 2003 04:00 PM

hey i was wondering if anyone new the average weight of an adult female jackson's chameleon. Because when i bought mine it was in a cage with other males and i never got to weigh it . it looks kinda fat but sometimes it looks just normal. She out weighs my male by about 35 grams she weighs about 95.5 can anyone tell me if she is pregnant or not.

Im not sure about the weights, but Jackson's store sperm, so if she is not gravid now, most likely she will be.

Each chameleon will have a different weight. The only way you could guess at whether she is gravid or not by weight is if you have been doing weekly weighings and you notice consistant leaps in weight. If she is an adult and she has been with a male then it is safest to assume that she could be gravid and be ready at anytime for babies. Sometimes you will have an obvious build up to where you know she will have babies sometime soon and sometimes it is a gradual build up and a small "clutch" and it could easily surprise you. With live bearers it is always best to be ready.
One way to tell is if her sides start buldging out.
