My Cape Gopher

nz Jul 09, 2003 04:04 PM

Just wanted to share a pic of my Cape Gopher before he is no longer mine. I have to make room for some new arrivals so I am forced to find him a good home. It sucks, I know, I wish I could keep every Pit I get, but until I get a warehouse that's just not possible...lol.

Hey P-RAT. Thanks for the great comment, now I am really depressed...lol. I am expecting a money order in a few days, but if it doesn't show I will post. All I can do now, to cheer myself up, is look forward to the new arrivals.

him, but i know what you mean about having to cut back sometimes. I just sent a proven pair of corns out the other week, and will probably sell the rest of my corn collection in a year or two to make room for my pits and rat snakes. I agree with you on needing a warehouse, lol. I'm actually looking for some female Capes, preferably adults, but they are proving to be very hard to find. Congrats on a great looking snake, and too bad you had to let him go. Thanks for sharing the pic.
Have a good day,
Gregg F.

I do wish I could keep him, maybe it's time for a rack system...lol. I was visiting your site and saw the neon Albino you have, man what a beauty. Do you have any eggs cooking? I really want to get a pair of those, but I'll have to wait til next year when I have some extra cash. Is the albino gene newly found in the Cape Gopher? Thanks, and take care. -NZ

if you're getting out of Cape Gophers, especially his albino capes. LOL. If all you require is a rack system, start building if you're going to browse Gregg's site. I love cape gophers and had steered away from the albinos for a long time and I live only a few hours from the guy who originally produced them. I actually had thought they weren't as great looking as they are. Go figure that one. Well, Gregg and someone else (help me here becasue I can't think of him right now) began doing some posts awhile back and threw up some awesome pics of albino capes. Now, I'm inline to maybe be added to the lucky ones who Gregg will hopefully make some hets available. I may have to take Gregg's link off mine and Del's website so we're not held responsible for people getting hooked on his pituophis and ratsnakes. LOL. At least we may have to add a disclaimer. Good luck. That's a great looking cape someone is lucky to be getting.

whats this, a disclaimer A... hahaha, I guess i'll have to put one beside you and Del's link on my site now, lol. I need to build several more rack systems myself. Just picked up a pair of bulls and sonorans yesterday...Terry, you need to buy some more animals so i'm not getting ahead of you. You did pick up that pair of Gulf Hammocks, but sold the Deckert's. I can send some proven corns your way to even things back out though..hahaha. The other man breeding the albino Capes is Jeremiah, who has Diablo Snake Farm. He has a great looking male too. I'm going to start thinking about a disclaimer now that you've got me started.
Have a good one Terry, and keep looking for some female Capes for me! lol

Gregg's RB

gofer Jul 10, 2003 02:12 PM

so hopefully by mid August or before I will be posting some pics of baby albinos! Thanks for the nice comments, and anytime you are interested in some just shoot me an e-mail. If you are really interested in some this year i will send you Terry's pair...hahahaha Just kidding Terry. I don't know how new the albino gene is in Capes, I believe it's been around for a while, Terry and Del probably know more on that than i do.
Have a good one NZ,

Gregg F.

by the way what kind of containers do you keep those large adult Sonorans in? The only reason I haven't built a rack system yet is cause I haven't been able to find large tubs that are taller than 6"! Why is it so hard to find a container that's around 36"x24"x12"? Right now I am keeping my San Diegos in 40 gallon tanks and large rubbermaids. I have some vines and branches for them and they just love it, always out and about and climbing and getting exercise. But I really need more room and a rack system sounds good about now. I've also thought about getting some stackable cages, but they are really expensive. What to do, what to do!!!???

The first cape gophers het for albino were made available in 1998 I believe. Steve Weissman only made hets available the fist couple years. I'm sure he was working with them a couple back breeding years before making hets available. I would think that makes Gregg one of the first breeders outside of Steve to produce and make any albino capes available. He did mention to me that Jeremiah was also producing them. I did see a few posts in the past of others who had picked up albino capes from Steve who haven't either produced any or have not advertised. I didn't buy the albinos when I had a chance previously because like I said, I didn't think they looked that great originally. Now that I've seen some more pics and see some more albino capes, I will be adding some to my collection in the future. Good luck NZ and Gofer, I hope I've answered your question. I might be leaving off some who have produced them, but it is not my intention.
