Are people really paying $100-200 each for normal males?

jmartin104 Mar 28, 2005 10:38 AM

I have been seeing lots of ads lately for normal males. Quite a few are obvious imports selling for more than $100. I'm also noticing quite a few of these are Florida based. Normal males (if any) are normally given away to friends, family and friends of family. There are tons of normal males in need of good homes for much less (often free) in rescues.

Sorry, just thinking aloud.

Think away Jay. It's a very valid point.

I recently picked up a "normal" ch male in that price range. But he is the male equivelent of a female that I have that has some odd coloring both of them are very dark but their yellow areas are more greenish, I call them my mint chipers because they remind me of mint chip ice cream. Anyway, next season I'm going to breed them and see what happens. If it works out the way I hope, the offspring will be bred to an albino. Just something I'm working with, but, in my book, worth the money. Now I've seen the plain normals, big normals and huge normals going for that price and I find that a bit extreme, but I guess there are people out there that are looking for "the biggest baddest male they can find" and may be willing to pay that price.

BPs I have been seeing are clearly normal with nothing spectacular.

they are hoping people will look at all the high price tags on the morphs and be happy settling with a $100 snake for now. Kinda like lining up a bunch of Rolls Royces and a Honda in front of someone shopping for a car. LOL. Or maybe they are just looking for a sucker, someone who doesn't know that you can get one for about $40 (the snake not the honda)! Anyay, I don't get it either.

By the way this post was in no way intended to offend any Honda drivers, I'm sure they are great cars!

Hey Bud,

I disagree with you on that. I think they should at least be worth over $100. Yes, they are more of a pet quality animal, but when prices go down on a animal they become a throw away pet. As everyone knows Ball Pythons were and still are famous for that ( among many others ). If driving the price up keeps some of these animals from mistreatment, then so be it. At least in my opinion anyway

How's that chondro doing? I agree with what you are saying. What I'm getting at is the imports. Many of these poor things are brought over for $10 or less and sold as healthy CBB snakes. There are plenty of Ball Pythons in rescues at any given time that need homes. Unfortunately, there will always be people who do not respect life - no matter what price is put on it.
