i am wondering, where should i place the heating mat, on the side of the aquarium, or on the bottom?im thinking maybe on the bottom the glass might get to hot?

i am wondering, where should i place the heating mat, on the side of the aquarium, or on the bottom?im thinking maybe on the bottom the glass might get to hot?
under the tank on the bottom and only about 1/4 to 1/3 of the bottom should be heated. snakes thermoregulate through their bellies. if your using a human heat pad set it on low. that is what i have for my baby corn snake. then i have that green carpet over the glass, then paper towels to soak up her messes.
if it's a UTH it's recommended to use some kind of rehostat to control the temp. although i use my UTH's with out any rehostat things. i have a layer of news paper then reptile bark over the newspaper. this works for me and my corns, milk and python. others may post their setups and opinions but this is what i do.
