male breeding weight?

louie1 Mar 28, 2005 10:42 PM

I have a pair of '03 1.1 het albinos but the female is too small still and I was wondering what weight would be ideal for my male to breed with an adult LTC? The LTCfemale is approx 34" and 230grams.

So I should weight till he's a 100g or 3yrs old? He's about 65g right now and I thought if I fatten him up he should be ready to go by the summer. Any thoughts?

i would wait cause when he is with a female he would stop eating for a while and if he is that skinny, after breeding wont eat for a few days maybe weeks might be trouble for you .
just a thought

A friend of mine in the Us had bred males as small as 45g! I waited till my albino males were 90 and they both managed eggs first hit!

yes very true you can breed them at 45-75 but that might not be old enough and the eggs might not be fertile, so why take the chance?

AFAIK, immature males won't try to breed. I would have no hesitation to breed a male as long as he is over 60g. If the male is too young, he won't show interest. The main reason you get slugs from matings is that male isn't cooled enough prior to mating.
The only think I would be careful of is the female viewing the male as a potential food item!
