diet question

cerrnunosmom Mar 29, 2005 09:53 AM

Bought 1st lizard Saturday night. He is a Niger Uromastyx, yellow-phase. He is settling in well, tank temps are high (over 100 in his basking area), he is eating and pooping, and looks fairly comfortable in new environment. My 2 kids are fascinated with him, and he is simply gorgeous!!!

I have read most of the messages in this forum, and all of the care sheets I could find about these lizards. Had one question I didn't see any answer to...

Will he eat/like eggs? If so, raw or cooked? I thought some lizards did like to eat eggs, but didn't see it mentioned in any care sheets, and wanted to see if it would be harmful to him...

Thanks in advance.

i think that this has been asked before and it has been advised against. i looked on the beautiful dragons website for the egg content and it had alot of phosphorus in it.

Eggs? I thought they were more herbivorous than omnivorous. I know they're omnivores, but I thought they leaned more towards veggies.

And shouldn't the basking temps be around 120? Or is it different for that species?

yes the basking temp should be closer to 120, good eye, i missed that

We get up to 110 by the end of the light cycle (I have them on a timer, and they go off around 7pm). I know he would like it a bit warmer than that. Have trip planned on Friday night to local pet store that specializes in lizards to talk to them about getting temps up a little more. Store we bought him from said 100 was fine. We started there. Did research, and will have to revisit lighting to get temps up. Perhaps ceramic emitter?

Anyway, like I said, didn't see anything about eggs, wanted to find out. Boy, does he love his veggies!!!!

Thanks for the responses!
