Finally getting into boas....

drummagirl Mar 29, 2005 01:28 PM

Wanting to purchase some AP cages for the adult pair that I have coming. Do you all think the 72x24x22 or the 72x30x18 would be better for an adult BCC female? For the male the 48x24x24 or the 48x30x18?
I'm thinking that I'll get the internal heat shrouds...any one use these on AP cages? I know there will always be the debate between belly heat vs overhead heat, but seeing as how I'm going to be losing my 'snake only' room, I think that the bulb will heat the cage better.
Thanks for any input!

I don't use or honestly know what AP cages are but I would suggest the larger floor spaced ones (the 30" wide with 18" tall) cages over the 22" wide and 24" tall on both sized cages. Adult boas will use the floor space much more then the heigth of the cage.
Good Luck with them

I have an AP 6x2x2 enclosure and the light shroud is installed. The light in a room that is approximately 80 degrees and using a 60 watt bulb keeps the hot spot at 95 (the female in the enclosure doesn't use the heat tape at all).

If you go with the 6x2x2 I suggest using a storage tub with a hole cut in the side for a hide box. My big female will often curl up ontop of the tub and lay there for extended times.

If you get one you should enjoy it alright, (I have a couple things I like about mine, but more things I dislike)

Have a great day.

Thank you for your input on the cages, as well as the hide suggestion.

Mind if I ask what you don't like about the cages? What other cage would you recommend? I'm all ears for suggestions!

What I dislike about the AP enclosure I have is unless I use a cypress and aspen mix bedding (or just strait cypress) I end up with very low humidity, and also the plexi doors are quite warped out of shape now (they are held closed with small tabs in locations that are not ideal) Also the plastic it is made of is quite soft.

Suggestions for other enclosures, hmm.. Boaphile, Randys Reptiles, Jungle Habitats, Visions. Just depends on what you are looking for in enclosures.. If you want to stick with the 6x2x2 or 6'x30"x2' size then either JungleHabitats or Visions are the only ones I suggest, as Boaphile 6'ers are quite pricey at that size, and Randy of Randys Reptiles doesn't go up to 6' at the moment.
