Lumping???

Markus Jayne Mar 29, 2005 02:07 PM

I've heard some breeders describe their females as 'lumping'. I always thought they were refering to them building towards ovulation.

Often I will observe female wrapped around their water bowls in normal fashion, but other times I see this. Their body is very ...well...lumpy.

Any thoughts?

I've made some additions to our breeding page.

I see this on the slim profiled girls much like the one you have pictured. The girl that just dropped for me looked identical to the picture you posted. However, the stought big fat 3000 g and up girls you can't see lumps.

I often see the water bowel hug before or after the ovulation. It do not see that as the "lump", the actual lump is well defined and the area is often massive. If you touch the animal it is very tight, looks as if someone snuck in and fed the animal a big ole rat! The lump is the animal pushing the developed mature(hopefully) follicles out of the ovaries into the oviduct, point of conception. The lump is the grouping of these follicles being pushed forward towards the snakes head into the openings of the oviducts where they then do a 180 degree turn and spread down into the oviducts to grow and shell.

I don't know if this means anything but just my take!!! Kev

Pretty snake!!

The Most Extensive Collection of Ball Python Mutations in Captivity

Thanks for your response and I'm sure you have seen more ovulations than most. I am very familiar with the build and the swell that leads to ovulation and the process that follows. However I have some females that ripple like the one in the photo. They look like their spines are kinking. I think Jim Perron might be on the right track in stating that it is more evident in thinner females, which this female is.

Thnaks again. Your input is always appreciated!
