Acting crazy

paigehcsm Mar 29, 2005 05:25 PM

Tango, my adult leucistic gecko girl, has been acting strange. She normally spends most of her time in her hides and comes out when it's feeding time. Lately, she seems almost restless, stomping around all over the cage, climbing on her cage furniture and creating a big fuss. What could be her problem? I'm fairly new to the species, so I'm afraid I might just be missing something that she is trying to tell me. Any ideas?

How old is she? How long have you had her? Has anything in the cage been changed recently? Does her stomache look bigger? If she is of breeding age it could possibly be nesting behavior. Even if they are never with a male the females can produce infertile eggs and show their nesting behaviors. Or maybe she is coming out more now that the temperatures seem to be picking up outside? As long as she looks healthy I wouln't worry about it and just enjoy seeing her active more.

Well, I've had her two months and she was a juvenile when I got her. Nothing in her cage has changed. I did notice her belly looking a little bigger and it looked similar to pics I've seen of gravid females. I thought I was being silly though, because I didn't know they could produce infertile eggs! That may well be it. Should I provide some kind of nesting material for her, or just leave her alone? She has a moist hide but she never uses it.

She's probably telling you that she wants attention. My male and female both have a habit of trying to climb the tank walls when they want attention or they pace back and forth across the front of the tank to tell me to take them out because they want to be held. Don't worry if she squirms a little bit when you take her out because mine squirm when I get them out even though they want out. If thats not the case then she'll probably bite you to tell you that, thats not what she wanted. I'd give this a try and see if thats what she wants if its not then I really don't know whats going on. I pay very close attention to my gecko's body language so I can usually tell what they want and they have no problems asking for something when they want it so pay more attention to her body language for future reference.
