reptiles and weather

kap10cavy Mar 29, 2005 10:31 PM

We had a bad storm blow in Sunday. Yes, the Easter Bunny brought us tornados.
Saturday I noticed my monitors and other critters doing some things.
My savs started digging like crazy, I think they were widening the insides of their burrows, then they collasped the entrance. They came out this morning.
The blackthroat and the argus went cruising the cages acting all agitated. They too went underground after awhile. They came back out sunday night no worse for wear.
My amazon tree boa left his perch at the top of his tree and wrapped himself in the fork at the thickest part of his tree.
The box turtles dug down and stayed in their shells. the water turtles went to the water and sat on the bottom.
Who needs a weather man when you have reptiles.

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

Yea, it is amazing how animals can sense the changes in the atmosphere that us humans have to watch the news to understand what's going on outside.... kinda wish I had that kind of sense to know whether or not to bring an umbrella with me b/c here in Louisiana it rains when there is a 10% chance for rain...and doesn't rain when it is 90%....LOL?

Great observations. Thanks for sharing. I heartily suspect that our 'primative' ancestors observed the same behavoirs, and it may be why we as a species are still around!

I think that such simple pleasures of observation are the real joy of reptile keeping.

Our amazons do the same, all of the colubrids get active, tegus dig in, even the bearded dragons seem to want to hide. I believe the preasure in the atmosphere effects all critters, even us!
