Fire skink eggs

mark_w Mar 30, 2005 02:40 AM

I now have a clutch of what looks like five fertile fire skink eggs in my incubator at c. 85 degrees F.

Had a clutch of three earlier this year, but they failed during incubation.

I don't think I've ever seen CB fire skinks, or heard of anyone breeding them. Can anyone here comment on incubation temps or in any other way about breeding this species?

Cheers,
Mark.
Fingers crossed...

We hatched out Fire skinks in 2003 at an incubator temp of 82/83 degrees, 85 degrees may be a bit too high and could be the cause of your last eggs not hatching out.

Thanks for that. I'll reduce the incubation temp a couple of degrees.

Could you comment on clutch sizes, numbers of clutches per year, hatch rate and raising the hatchlings? More info would be appreciated!!!

Thanks again,
Mark.

I cant answer your question but must say thats incredible . Did you house your skinks together?
I never heard nor read of fire skinks breeding in captivity. you should write an article for Reptile mag as it would be well received by them and us.
