Garter Snake in Ohio

itsbrad Mar 30, 2005 07:25 AM

So yesterday I was cleaning/tilling soil for planting a rose bush and what do I find in the corner of the area? A beautiful 7-8 inch Garter Snake. I was wondering if there is one are there more? The reason is it is right in front of my house and I dont really want them getting IN the house. Another thing I noticed was there were 2 holes in the soil and we had a really bad rainstorm, could he just be out getting dry or is March the time to come out of hibernation?

Thanks
Brad

They're coming out of hibernation now. I don't think the little guys will have any interest in getting in your house, no food in there for them. Maybe in the Fall they may be in search of a spot to stay warm for the winter and then you will want to keep everything closed up.
