Housing question for blood pythons????Long post..sorry.

ginger7456 Mar 30, 2005 10:06 AM

First of all I'd like to say hello, I'm new to this particular forum. I've been on some of the other ones but never this one. I have a question. I have a friend that is looking for a home for his 2 year old blood python (so far that is all I know about it-I have someone getting me more details), I have a house full of creatures but I've never had a blood python. Right now I have 2 ball pythons, a carpet, and a green tree python. My boyfriend custom built all of the cages and I was wondering if it would be possible to put the blood python in with the ball pythons until he can build a new cage? Thier cage is 36"L, 18"deep, and 24"H. It has sliding glass doors, and a decent amount of ventilation. We have a pro-products heat panel in their controlled by a helix. the temp is 85 during the day and drops to 75 at night. If this is not ok I can work something out until his new cage is built but if it is ok that would be much easier. Any other info on their care is more than welcome. Also any good websites so I can do my homework would be great. Thanks in advance-sorry so long.

I would strongly advise against keeping multiple species together in the same cage. No, no, no, no, no. Plus, blood pythons have different requirements than ball pythons do.

Wait until you get a separate cage put together for your blood, and then get it.

NERD also has a good care sheet on bloods, I'll post the link below. Also, another easy caging idea are those sterilite containers you can buy at the store for less than ten bucks. Drill some holes and you have a big cage ready to go. Also, some of the bloods get so heavy that these work better than glass, they can't lean and push the glass out of the side that way.

Thanks to both of you for those web sites, they were both exactly what I was looking for. I was surprised to see how big they got. I was under the impression that they were a fairly small snake!!! I obviously needed to do some serious homework on these guys. Now I can't wait to get one!! If anyone has any personal experiences they'd like to share I love chatting with fellow herpers. All info is welcome and appreciated. Thanks again for all the advice thus far.
