Crested Handling

Any rough ideas how long it can take before a crested will settle down enough to be handled? I know I'm rushing stuff, considering I've had mine less than a week. It seems to be doing well enough after dropping it's tail, but would love to be able to take it out once in a while like others of you seem to be able to do.

It finally seems to be moving about the cage more, at least once the lights in the room are out or it's dark. I'll keep trying little by little, and see what happens!
