can someone help me please

my father was doing some much needed yard work, in birmingham alabama, when he come across a baby snake. he thinks maybe possibly a newborn,

he said it was brown and abt the size of a worm, the brown was a light biege, no spots or pattern on it. and was sticking his tongue out at him all the time. tongue was black . lol.

being from iowa we dont know all these snakes here in the south can someone please help us out by possibly identifing it.

Can't be positive without a visual, but most likely an eastern worm snake, Carphophis amoenus. Did your dad see its belly? If so, was it pink?
