HELP, HELP, HELP

Hello, I am not new to burms I keep some pretty big girls but I just got a male albino from a friend of a friend, he is done breeding him and just let me take it cause he has seen my enclosures. Well heres the deal, about eight feet, skin looks great, mouth and nostrals are clear and he eats, the problem is I hear this like noise coming from him(like a bubbling slash rumble type noice) If it was respiratory wouldn't his nose be messed up ect. ect. I have kept snakes for 15 years and have never had a sick one so I am new to this sort of thing. Thanks for the help.

Sounds like a respiratory infection. Take him to the vets. If you can't do that right away bump up the temp to 90 degrees and bump up the humidity also. This may help till you can get him to the vets.

sometimes after cooling a burm will whistle a little ,heat it up and it should come right out of it,Ive seen whistles in quite a few over the years,as long as mouth nose and eyes are clear, and its not coughing or hocking any mucus up it should be just a matter of temp.

it is a male, I have never done any breeding, they cool males as well? nose, mouth is fine, sounds like your stomach when you are really hungry, he looks fine though. Thanks Jason

Have you looked inside the mouth? If everything looks dandy then try the optimal husbandry requirments for burms as suggested and see what happens. Don't delay a vet visit if this doesn't get better, as the sooner treatment begins, the better the prognosis.

The most important point is quarantine. While this burm's health is on your mind, I'm sure you still value your tried and true burms more. Keep this guy as far as you can from your collection and see to him last. Perhaps look up reptile quarantine procedures if you're unfamiliar with them. This guy could be immunal compromised for a reason and may have any number of scary viral diseases, including, but not limited to ophidian paramyxovirus, boid inclusion body disease, iridovirus infection and others.

Cooling is usually necessary for viable sperm production and successful breeding with many boids (and other snakes). However, the burmese python is not an animal that takes this well. It probably should not be a practice at all. But if the snake has recently been bred I would be willing to bet it was cooled and you should have a vet see him and keep your temps and humidity up.
