getting baby leopard geckos to eat...

steph_n_melissa Mar 30, 2005 08:57 PM

Hi, we have a baby (2-3 mos old) leopard gecko and are having trouble finding something that he will eat. We have tried crickets, mealworms, and wax worms and he just picks at them - if that. He isn't putting on any weight and we're getting kind of worried. We even tried the dried nasty stuff the pet store sent home with him (not that we thought it would work). If anyone has any suggestions, we would be VERY greatful. THanks.

try small silkworms.

What does it do when you put crickets in? I assume you're using small enough crickets?

Sometimes the crickets jumping around like crazy will frighten some of the shy baby geckos.
So, I use to put the crix in the fridge for a short time. This slows them down a lot. Usually the shy geckos would go after the slower crickets then.

Also, use a small container for this, like a deli-cup.

But definately make sure you are using the smallest crix as possible.

The combination of small crickets, slowed down by cooling them and feeding in a small container may get some shy babies going.

hi we have a 1 week old leopard geck that wont eat crickets if they are running and jumping around, so we use a pair of tweezers around the abdomen to hold the cricket in place.
our gecko will take it right out of the tweezers,
ps she is very shy, but she is fine with this method
