UPS...GGRRRR!!!

jamiesbeardie Mar 30, 2005 09:56 PM

Bear with me people, I must vent! I ordered a new beardie coming from NM , I'm in arizona. Anyhoo, she was supposed to be here this morning, I didn't get her til 7 pm. UPS lost her! Can you believe that? After many calls and failed attempts to deliver her (that brown truck passed my house three times!)I had to go downtown to the UPS depot to see what was up. Basically they didn't know where she was. I told them that they had a big problem then because I wasn't going to leave without her and I meant it. So two hours later, they find her. Ugh, I was so terribly worried by then. But, she's good and eating already.
Anyone else have a UPS horror story?
Jamie

Hi Jamie,

Sorry to hear about your mishap. Hope your animal is ok. All of the carriers screw up (Delta, DHL, UPS, FedEx...). It is simply a risk you take when shipping animals. In my experience though, the large majority of the time, everything is on time and gets where it is supposed to go. But sometimes it does not. You can see why the way that the animal is packed is very important.

Ian is right, it doesn't matter which freight company you use, you are taking a big risk. I worked at one of the freight companies mentioned, my office over looked the frieght warehouse, the freight was kicked, thrown and dumped, it's a wonder anything gets to where it is going... a live or undamaged. I wouldn't recommend ever shipping a live animal, the poor things would have to be frighten out of their minds with only the shipping part, then to be kicked, thrown and dumped on top of it has to be just terrifying. After working at a freight company and seeing this I would never ship any animal, it's cruel to do so. Just stating my opinion, no offence to people that do like to ship.

Well I know I won't be doing it again....poor thng. She's alright now, showing more normal coloring now. She's still spooked, hiding alot. Last night she fed on some crickets and so far this morning she's still okay. It was quite an experience though....

well, I have a story...my hubby and I both work at the post office...I ordered my beardie from Dachui...had to wait till after x-mas since they were closed for a period...could hardly stand waiting for the pics to go up to choose one...was up early and checked several times before finally up...well after making the sale and arrangements, my hubby took the day off to be here for the delivery, I have no sick days or vacation days...I was told they could ship overnight through the postal service but I decided against that since I would know when he arrived at the post office which would be pure torture not to see him...if I would have went that route, I would have called the hubby to come to the post office and take him home as soon as he arrived, a ten minute drive...well the ship, ment he would have come to the post office with arrived by 9:30 am...instead I chose to use ups...well the work day came and went with me getting more and more upset, I waited all day for the call at work saying he arrived at home...driving home from work at the end of the day, I passed the ups truck heading in the same direction, as quick as I got home I turned on the basking light, etc. expecting the ups guy right behind me...well it was about 3 hours after that my beardie finally arrrived at 5:30pm...I was furious with the postal service he could have been home by 10:00am...hours less of the stress of travel on him...but it all turned out well...he was only slightly stressed and ate well from the next day on...
