are beardies good swimmers ??

gary1 Jul 09, 2003 07:11 PM

i had charlie my adult beardie in a shallow bath tonight (he had strawberry juice/peices all over him lol), it was still shallow enough to have all feet on the ground but he seemed vary hesitant. he wouldnt move about much and kinda darkened his beard slightly

do beardies like water or was he just being wary of a new situation ?

yes, they are great aswimmers, they look like little gators. BUT, not all dragons enjoy swimming. Give yours a few more tries though, none of them take to the water instantly.
If they discover they like it, they really seem to enjoy themselves.

Ours were exposed to tubs and pools from the time they hatched or we got them. Most love their pool time, the girls seem to more than the boys. The girls start beating on their tanks to get out when they see me getting the water ready for their pool.

One we have will drive into any water she sees so we have to be careful of the toilet!!

carrick does that in the sink, he swims about, then i take him out and put him on the counter and he jumps right back in,slides down the side of the sink like a crocodile sliding down the bank, he will keep doing this, he just loves to swim, head right under the water i should get them an outdoor pool, like the one you have, sure they would love that.......

thanks for the replies. it is only like the second time he's been in a bath, think i'll put him in with the shallow water a couple more times to see if he gets used to it.

the beardie in the outdoor pool looks like he is having fun :D

Mine doesn't like the water at all. Typically he just stands there looking annoyed or he does his best to get out. He is a bit more calmer now especially when I put in a facetowel rolled up as a perch or a rock. Over all though, he really doesn't like it that much. I feel it is just as normal for them not to like it as to like it, it all depends on the dragon.
