shhawke Mar 31, 2005 08:58 AM

i am in the process of buying these snakes from a lady and she has had the snakes since they were less then a year... and they have been kept in the same cage ever since... and obviousley its been a long time... well they live in her bathroom now... ya i said her bathroom... no cage... she is kinda weird... anyway she is selling me them for $75 a piece and its a female red tail and thats what i want... i dont even want the burmese... but she says they have to go together... and wants me to sign a contract saying that i will keep them together and not sell or give either away... EVER... and wants the right to come visit with a weeks notice... i dont want a burmese and he does not fit into my breeding project... i'm open for any suggestions...

It's gonna cost you $150 to get the redtail you want. because you have to buy both.
Now you have to buy a cage big enough for both, and buy food to keep both full. That burm will eat you out of the house. You also have to keep in touch with her, be at her beck and call so to speak, and let her come in to your home whenever she wants to see the snakes that will then be yours ?!?!

I wouldn't do it if it was an albino for $75 !!!

I would pay $1000 for another colombian boa rather than deal with that!

Your talking about space, time, food, patience, and much more that you will have to deal with, apparently according to her, for the rest of the snakes lives !?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

are you kidding me?!?!

make sense ?

but I wouldn't want anyone coming and visiing in my house. I don't think the snakes are going to care if she visits anyway. I think you would be doing her a huge favor, including the herping community of getting those snakes out of her BATHROOM!!!! As for not wanting the Burmese, It might be difficult to give it away but I would take it just for the hobby and snakes sake and try and find a new home for it. A large female Boa for $150 isn't such a bad deal. But I seriously would tell her you will send her pictures but I wouldn't want a "weird" lady coming to my house. I am nice but not that nice...lol

i already have the enclosure... and it plenty big enough for both snakes... i have spent alot of time building cages in the past and have TONS just sitting around..

i would really love to add this girl to my collection she is has the most color i have ever seen in an adult... her tail is so bright red its not even funny... all of my other loose alot of color when they get that big...

but like u both said i dont want her coming by to visit... maybe i'm paranoid but i dont ever tell anyone what i have in my collection because i am worried someone will break in and try stealing it... my family does not even know ehat i have in my collection.... my reptiles have 3 rooms all to themselves and i have just bought a building for them...

whenever she wanted to. If you sign a contract you will be screwed and she will have the power. It's not worth it to me.
Just my opinion....

Well.....hate to be the "keeping two animals together police", but you really should not be keeping these guys together.

shhawke Mar 31, 2005 11:24 AM

i have no intention on keeping them together... they have been house together for several years.... but i had nothing to do with that...
i have talked to the lady on the phone and told her i want the snakes but that she will not be welcome in my home... and i used alot of tact...
and she said ok... so now i have to wait and see if she will sell to me or if she has someone else wanting them as well willing to allow her access to their life..

If she really wants to sell her animals I wouldn't buy them with ANY conditions or "contract". You don't want to be locked into keeping them in case you need or want to sell. The only way I'd buy them if I were you is, here's the money lady, thanks for the snakes, see ya later LOL.

she lives 2 hours and 40 minutes from me so i dont think she will be stopping by any time soon... and as far as the contract... i'm no lawyer but i dont think its worth anything if its not notorized...

i'll let you all know how this plays out... it will probably be a few days till i know for sure

the main reason, it seems that this person doesn't know proper care requirements and needs. At this, the quarantine and vet checks to make sure the boa is okay to be introduced into the vicinity of the rest of your collection would be too much, even if all circumstances were on basis of a simple sale.

Everyone knows it is best to keep animals seperate except for breeding. Anyone I would deem responsible would never house a boa and a python together, the danger of a asymptomatic disease that one could naturally carry being passed to another is a grave risk. I know she has always kept them together, but I, as well I am sure, many others would strongly advise against such practice. And in a bathroom?

shhawke Mar 31, 2005 02:33 PM

i know what u mean... i about fell out of my chair when she told me that they lived together in her bathroom...

but the snakes have been to the vet and she has tons of vet papers saying that checks have been done... heck she even got x-rays...
i will NOT house them together... but for the price i am dieing to get my hands on them... and i will probably give or sell the brem to someone... i will just tell he died or something if she ever bothers me about it...

she called me a few minutes ago and wanted reference #'s for my VET and 5 people i know that knows i have my snakes...

so i guess we will see what happens next... i'm not afraid to walk away from the deal but as good as it is if i can get her to drop the BS contract it will be a deal to remember...

Hey Chris, everyone knows snakes gotta go potty too! Lord knows what conditions they've been kept in. I'd hate to drive that distance only to find two animals with RI or?

shhawke Mar 31, 2005 03:07 PM

she lives about 30 minutes from my moms house so i will be doing this at my convenience, meaning when i will be closer to her...

i have never had a snake with an RI... i am guessing that it would be an obvious problem???
