I find that bottled spring water does just fine. Albertson's has an artesian well water that certifies purity, so I use that whenever I can get it. I have well water that has been extensively tested and is free from toxic contaminants, but it is very hard and leaves calcium deposits on the glass, so I use the spring water for misting and washing down the glass, etc.

Homer uses distilled water without problems, although when I changed to this for filling bromeliad leaves that contained imitator tadpoles, I lost a froglet that was just emerging, so simply never used it again, although Homer said he thought it was the sudden change that was problem (if it was a water problem at all.) I had imagined that the lack of electrolytes in distilled water may have had something to do with it. I've never gotten over my predjudice to try it again, however.
