Cold Ball

OC-Balls Mar 31, 2005 12:14 PM

Iv'e had my baby girls for 1.5 weeks now. 4 of the 5 seem to act "normal", enjoying their whole tub (warm side hide, cool side hide, etc.) But 1 seems to stay under the water dish most of the time. She stays really cold, does this mean anything?
They are all in the same Rack System, and have the same temps.
Thanks,
Ken

Where is she at in the rack, if she's on the top, her tub may be getting hotter than the rest. Also she might just like being on the colder side, I have a couple that are like that. Does she have a hide? Try give her one on the hot side and the cool side she where she ends up, there might be something more comforting to her on the cool side or there might be something that she dislikes about the hot side. They're funny creatures. By the way if you haven't already done so, make sure you spritz their tubs these Santa Ana are pretty wicked on the balls!

She's on the bottom rack, and she has a hide on both sides. The water dish is in the middle. The dish is a "catfood type" plastic dish, that she can coil under, it's a real tight space. Maybe the other hides are too large for her to feel comfortable.
Thanks for the info on these winds!

You'er probably right, they like to be in there real tight, it makes them feel secure. Since she's already chosen the water dish as a hide, cut a hole in the side of the water dish and let her use it as a hide.

I have an adult male that absolutely loves the cold side of his tank which is around 75 F daytime and 65 F nighttime. He has similar hides on both sides and he isn't the slightest bit shy, but he almost never basks on the warm side. When I take him out he always feels ice cold, but he is perfectly healthy and active and eats well. I guess he must think he is an arctic ball?

Try moving your water dish to the warm side of the tank and then see if she still prefers the cold, or just the hide.
