timor monitors

toad112081 Mar 31, 2005 05:43 PM

I wanted to see if anyone could give me some info on timor monitors. I was looking for a smaller monitor species that I can still interact with. I love ackies but, even the babies are soooo expensive. I want a couple of whatever I decide to get since they are on the smaller size. Anyways any info will be helpful and anyone knows where I could find some let me know. Thanks!

Check the classifieds, there are some similis for sale right now and probably others. I have two pair of auffenbergi(blue spots).

If u are looking for a monitor that you can handle then these are not them...Beautiful and I find them extremely entertaining but very skittish. After yrs they may or may not allow your presence but not often do they like to be handled. Extremely fast moving monitors so if u are handling them and one gets free, good luck on catching them. I love them, but not for everyone, I would recommend a vertical cage with lots of hidespots and lots of climbing branches and walls. Sometimes they can be somewhat picky eaters in my experience, esspecially the females.

These are all just my opinions. But once again I would not recommend these if u want something that u can handle, interact with, or view closely on a regular basis.

Thanks for the quick response. They are neat looking but I do want something that I can handle. I'm not big on display animals but that's just me. If I can't interact with them I'm not interested. But, who knows maybe I'll see one and fall for it! Thanks again for the info!

I don't have timors, but from what I have read over the few years I have been on here, they are display monitors. Why don't you just save your money and buy an ackie. The yellows are not that much more than a timor and in the long run you will be happy you made the choice. Good luck.

Ackies would be more handleable than timors. I don't know that timors even make good display animals because they always hide and are never out on "display". My timors stay out more but not until i had them for about three years. I never pick them up unless i absolutly have to. A yellow ackie doesnt cost much more than a timor and is going to be captive bred where timors are not likely to be true cb. Go with the ackie and you will be much happier.
