wierd stuff growing in terrarium

lizgirl17 Mar 31, 2005 08:33 PM

I just finished planting a terraium a couple weeks ago. There are no animals in it yet but I am plnning on getting some dart frogs. I bought all the plants at home depot and they are doing great. I also got some rock cap moss from a website that seems to be doing okay. I found some moss in my front yard that is similar to pillow/cushion moss but I don't know what species it is. Today I noticed there is a type of fungi growing in the tank. I think it is Ascobolus furfuraceus or a similar species but I'm not sure. Is this bad for any type of animal I put in the tank? Should I remove it, or even break down the tank and start over (and get rid of the moss from my yard)? Also while digging around the fungi I noticed a tiny earth worm. I took it out but I'm worried i might have brought it and more in with the moss from my yard. Is this problem? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Your terrarium looks great. For dart frogs or mantellas lol my favorite (pain to feed tho such tiny insects)its great.
Earthworms are 100% harmless. I have had all types of fungi in my terrarium, mushrooms, etc and never the slightest problem.
You can bresk it up and it might grow again as the spores get in the moss, etc but it dies in time with good lighting that the plants like.
I use moss because the tiny tiny insects it has make for great tiny frog food and other than ants, beetles, centipedes and some spiders its great.
I am sure you have tiny insects in that moss . Lots tho can climb glass but are harmless.
