Questions about anacondas...never had one before

crazy4burm123 Mar 31, 2005 09:13 PM

Ok well I have a burm now and will not get one anytime soon but I was wondering.....Anacondas are aquatic and I see many cages with just a good size water bowl? Wouldn;t they be happier with like a more aqautic set up and a little peice of land? Sorry I was just wondering. Also how does everyone set their cages up? Can I see some pics? Thnaks a lot I am fasinated by these snakes.

As far as an aquatic enviorment goes, you do not need a pool when they are older. Kelly Haller is probably the #1 conda breeder and she doesn't even use pools, just simple water bowls. As long as the humidity is good, the conda should be fine. Both of my condas still have pools, a 7' green and a 9' Green x Yellow anaconda. Both of the 8' cages in that picture are the cages with my anacondas. When Anacondas are babies, you want to try and not let them soak ALL the time either, from all the bacteria that builds up in the water, they can form water blisters. I'm sure there is someone that can give you a really detailed description of using full aquatic vs. not. This is probably as basic as you can get

Those cages look sharp. What is your substrate though? Kelly is good isn't he ; )

Are you happy with those monster cages? If you don't mind me asking how much did they eat into your pocket? They look real nice and I like the fact that you can stack them right ontop of eachother. Do you have UTH or lighting built in? Thanks.

Yes, he is deffidently good, and I don't even own one of his condas! Maybe next batch though! I'm using paper towels as a substrate also, I'm not really a big fan of newspaper, not only the ink (it gets onto a white cage), but it's not very strong. Paper towels can hold quite a load and don't rip as easy. Onto the cages! Yes, I'm very very happy with the cages! I actually wish I would have gotten more 18" high cages, that way I could stack more! They really weren't too bad price wise, it really all depends on the options you get. They have price ranges on the website, but mine were like $500 for the 8' and $400 for the 6'. Really good prices if you ask me, and plus they offer a lot more options than a vision or boaphile. If it's a basic cage, besides the look, the only difference is you have to put these together. I put each one together in an hour appeice, all you really need is a scrw driver, unless you want to glue it, or do both. Either way, it's strong enough to hold a large retic, burm, or conda. The lighting is sort of built in. The fixtures are screwed in. Anymore questions, I will be happy to answer
