Nervous Papa

nate351 Apr 01, 2005 01:22 AM

I posted a few days ago that my Cal King started laying her eggs, and that these are my first king eggs, and hers as well. Well, as of this evening, she is still holding on to a couple (looks like four) and it has now been over two days. Since this is her first clutch, I am nervous about egg binding. At what point do I need to worry? She is an 02 who started with great body weight, and is about four feet long. She has laid 5 eggs, and looks to have four more. Any input?

Thanks,
nate.

This is not good,I would gently handle the snake and attempt to get her crawling. I would do this every 2 hours or so for a few short minutes because it could hopefully get her back on track. You may want to place her water dish to her face and see if she drinks....she may be exhausted. Remove the dish after she takes a sip. I would even consider giving her a very small food item. I hope she pops em out for ya Tom Stevens

Thank you. So far, no eggs, but we've been handling her, and she did eat and drink, so hopefully be morning. If not very soon, I'll take her in to the vet. Thank you for the advice: I had no idea if it was safe to handle her and feed her, or if that would stress her too much.

thanks again,
nate.

The key word is gently. Some guys will actually try to kind of massage the eggs out. It is a problem you can face without a straight up answer. I would search the archives of this forum as I am sure it has been discussed many times. There may be some tips on things you can try, but I do not think it can be forced. Which is why I encouraged you to try n get the snake to crawl around.Sometimes when eggs are bad they get stuck, other times fertile eggs will become bound for reasons unknown. I hope it works out with minimal stress for the snake, a vet is the best option Tom Stevens
