How to become a herpetoculturist?

viridix Jul 09, 2003 08:09 PM

I wanted to "advertise" my post on the other forum; it's copy and paste.

Hi,

I am looking for a career in herpetology/herpetoculturist (preferably working with venomous snakes [rattlesnakes] testing, caring, breeding, anything around them). I would like any information available on how to do this. I want to start college soon and I don't want to bother spending money on courses that will not help me to do this. I'm located in Arizona. Any recommendations on people I should contact? Any schools that have a killer reputation (I don't care how much money I have to spend on my education, trust me, it will be well worth the time and effort).

Thanks to all.

AS for college courses - zoology and biology courses will be of benefit also anything dealing with animal husbandry. I would also suggest that you go to a "local" zoo and talk with the herp department about volunteering and what suggestions they have for taking courses or other work options.

hope that helps,
e
