Leaving for almost a week...wil they be OK?

jediknightbria Jul 09, 2003 08:25 PM

We'll be gone on vacation from the 22nd til the 27th, and there will be nobody home to take care of our four RES. If I put their heat lights on a timer and feed them right before and right after I get home, will they be all right without food for that long?

yeah they'll be fine,
over feed them for a few days before you leave.
then the last day clean the tank really well....do a large water change

make sure the light can't fall onto the ground or anywhere it could cause a fire
make sure your filter(s) are very clean and unclogged so they don't get stuck and drain water all over your house while you are gone
make sure the tank is well secured and the lid is on

5 days is easy for a turtle to go without food
if you are really worried, throw in some live feeder fish or shrimp before you go
if they are adults, leave some live water plants in before you go
they should be fine
