More pics and good news....

ZPD Apr 01, 2005 02:17 PM

So when I cleaned his shed off there was an area on his neck where the skin is very red and blistered, I was trying to pull shed off (gently) and almost pulled his skin off the muscle. Its loose and not even connected to the body...hard to explain. What could have cause dthis I dont know.
Good news is he decided to eat a small rat and is pretty calm and peaceful now in his tank. I've got the temps up around 100 in the basking spot and the newspaper is nice and wet. I don't know if you can see what im referring to on his neck area it didnt come up well in the pics. Inbetween the green pattern parts where it's white more or less you can almost see the redness...

Well he sure does look a lot better now that he is shed, and in a proper home, he is a beauty too by the looks of it, its sad that there are so many snakes out there in homes with people that don't know how to care for them properly.

Is that a hole in his skin across from the base of your thumb? Looks like a BB hole.

Nice work on getting him back into shape. He looks like he'll be a looker.

Couple things though: You might want to consider getting something from a vet in order to keep his open wounds clean. I'd hate for them to get infected now that he's on his way to recovery...
Also, 100 for a hot spot is too warm. I'd knock it down to 88-91.
Finally, retics like humidity, but not "wet" cages. In fact, with open wounds, I'd probably lower the humidity in order not to promote any mold or fungal growth. Offer him a humidity box or a large water dish and keep the cage floor dry.

Hope this helps
