This is Chibba. She is the youngest of her siblings (only by 2 weeks), and is exactly 4 months old tomorrow. F. l. lateralis.

kevin, how are your other lateralis clutches coming along? When are they due to hatch?

Kevins Apr 02, 2005 03:31 PM

I only have one clutch that is long term laid last year. It will hopefully start hatching within the next few months-but you never really know with carpets. It could potentially be quite a bit longer. Another clutch of mine was just laid recently so of course it will be a long wait for that-at least 7 months...or longer--who knows...? Another clutch is on the way from a gravid girl as well. Thanks for asking.

How long do your clutches take to hatch? Isn't it 45 days at 74-77, 45 days in diapause, and about 90-100 days at 77 after they are out of diapause, about 6 months? I'm sure it can take longer, as I have had veiled clutches hatch at 6 months, almost to the day, and have had them go 9.5 months. My clutch just went into diapause about 5 days ago, so i still have alot of time. Good luck. Thanks for the info.

Yes, that is the standard time frame. My last clutch took 4 months to hatch after being taken out of diapause. This current clutch was taken out of diapause about 4 or 5 months ago. I have a feeling it will take quite a while yet. Moisture variations can affect incubation duration as well.

Haha...She does have that look to her doesn't she. I hate to even take pictures of them at all, because like Kerry has said before, lats are an extremely shy species, and the camera really scares them. It is nice to do on occasion to see how they change as they grow.

Hi Kevin,
Do you remember me? I asked you about incubating carpet several months ago. My baby carpets just came out 3 days ago. The total incubating time takes 9~10months (3~4 months after diapause). Now I've 6 babies and still have 7 eggs waiting for hatching. At this moment, the hatch rate is just ~50% as there were 5 babies died in the egg just before hatching. Do you know the reason for that?

The following is one of the babies.
