Beardie with swollen front legs

Piglet106 Apr 01, 2005 06:39 PM

My 3 1/2 year old "runt" beardes has developed "puffy" front legs. She has proper diet, lighting, temps, and calcium. Does this still sound like MBD, or could it be something else. She is still eating ok, but doesn't want to move around too much. I am not new to beardies but have never seen this before. Any help would be appreciated....Thanks

none of my care sheets mention this as a symptom of any common ilnesses or problems, although I'm sure the care sheets are not completely detailed...I'd also worry that she could have injured herself...Good Luck

Check her toes for unshed skin that might be constricting her feet. I'm going through this now with mine, and he won't let me peel that junk off. I've been soaking him more often and putting Vaseline on his feet and tail to get him to peel it faster.

You are correct in thinking that swollen limbs are a sign of MBD. I have seen MBD occur in dragons that have acess to UVB and are supplemented, it can happen. I would take your guy to the vet just in case...

It could be several things, can you look at the elbows and see if they are rounded and smooth, or if they have any knots on them. Also look at the large toe joints and see if any are swollen or knotty.
