Update on the rescue (again)

Melisondra Apr 01, 2005 08:10 PM

Yeeehaw (for Feenie)
She seems to be doing fairly well, got home and looked in her cage (not sure if I said Hi to the parents before or after this... whoops) And she was sitting in the vines fairly far off the ground, so she's definitely getting her strength back and has been climbing around.
Couple worries though.
1) She is still only 12 grams, which is the same weight as when I got her. I dont know if I should be looking for a drastic increase in weight but at least a gram gain or something would have been expected.
2) I ended up giving her the reptiaid and such today when I got home. She seemed to be doing just fine but then seemed to start choking and coughed up a big glob of it. I had been giving her the reptiaid and then a bit of water inbetween the servings. I dont know if it was my fault, and I gave her too much too soon? The other thing I wondered was if I am making it too sticky? The reptiaid is a liquid but not very runny. Should I mix in more water and try that way so it is easier to swallow?? (Before someone asks I am using warm water and grinding the powder up a bit as im mixing.)
Otherwise that Mom say's she's been zappin crickets and climbing around, so slowly but surely she's improoving.

Thanks all
Erin

Hi Erin, sounds like she is doing quite well in your Mom's care
if she is shooting crix on her own then you could back-off on the repta-aid(RA) so long as her crix are well gutloaded. I had the same problem with the goopiness of the RA. I ended up really smooshing it to a very fine powder with a mortar and pestle (what I'll do for Luna, huh?) and then use HOT water and stir it until it is as dissolved as possible. I kept it on the watery side - more like a slurpee. I only ground and made what I would likely use each time.

as for her weight, this is how I see it: if you were to (visually) slice her into 12 segments, each weighing a gram, I think you will see that a gram (at her size) is a lot. If you can get some butterworms and silkies I think you will see her fatten up a bit. Both high in calcium and the BW are high in fat but OK to help a sick cham recouperate
Keep up the good work!!
