Hi Lele, I was just wondering..... ( since this is the chameleon forum I'll have to include them).... When I make the chow for the silkworms for my CHAMELEONS.. is it possible to add some calcium to it?? Like if when I'm mixing the powder chow, can I add a teaspoon or so of Miner-All, or some other none vitamin D powder?? Or does the chow already have it? just curious, I'm cooking up another batch tonight as I have lots of hungry mouths to feed.
Thanks!!

Silkies are naturally high in calcium but still need to be supplemented. I suppose you could add it to the mix, but I have no idea if the high temps in microwave would change it in anyway, nor if the proportions would be affected. I would opt for dusting the silkies but remember that you can block its spiracles (little openings along the side of their body connected to the trachea and how they breath) and suffocate it if your cham doesn't eat it. OR, you can just press the belly of the caterpillar into the Ca so as not to block the spiracles.

Here is a cool little article on thsi very subject with a crix vs. silkie chart to boot!

Thanks Lele, I think I'll just stick to dusting, I don't know what kind of "formula" I'd be making it I added it. I don't need any 3 headed caterpillers running around here!
Thanks again!
