We all need to know this

OK, what is the correct spelling for Columbian? I have seen it spelled Colombian in newspapers and other places that should know the correct spelling. What's right? Now, if you say one way is right, explain why it is. Just one of those things that has always bothered me, considering I breed them for a living. Lol

Philippe de Vosjoli's "The boa constrictor manual" the common (Boa constrictor imperator) Boa is the -Colombian- red tail boa.... just wanted to copy it out from a pro.... Hope that helps you...

Sincerely,

I was born in Columbia........

Boa constrictors are found in Colombia..........

one is in Pennsylvania and one is in South America............'

......most Boas are Imperaters.....which are not from Colombia anyways............

*(did I spell Imperater correctly?.LOL)

.......where are they from ?.....southern Mexico and Central America.......Northern South America........

...and.are they so mixed together?.....Colombian,Ecuadorian,peruvians,Costa Rican(??) etc etc etc.that they are all just mutt boas anyways?......

.......

............stories of pet shops /dealer shops in the 1970's.........BIG bags of boas come into store......opened up..drop half into one tank and half into another..label one Colombian and one Suriname.........tadaa.........maybe they were at least nice enough to place all the silver / grey ones into the Suriname tank and all the tan / brownish ones into the Colombian tank.........???....then where did the purple Guyanans come into this....?..........really from Guyana?.......haven't seen a purple one in awhile........(pics?)....

..........anyways........ColOmbia..........

It is Colombian. If there are Columbians that would be the new locale out of Washington D.C. I probably have misspelled it once or ten thousand times myself...lol

I think more people spell it with a U, instead of an O. Like I said, I've seen it in newspapers with an O, but also a U.

ChrisGilbert Apr 01, 2005 09:40 PM

ColOmbian is the politically correct spelling.

Gotta be politically correct then. Lol. The only person that would spell it "Purivian" is a good friend of mine that can't spell "it". Lol

callmedaddie Apr 01, 2005 09:55 PM

Your jumping the gun here. Purivian isn't on any American made maps either. Let me put it this way if you have trouble understanding. You would say that I'm Puerto Rican..... I would say that I'm Puerto Riqueno with the "n" making a "y" sound. A map made in Colombia would be written as just that. Purivian is neither on a United States map or Peruvian map...... so your comment doesn't make sense. That is just an incorrect spelling.

ChrisGilbert Apr 01, 2005 10:21 PM

He said he saw people on the classifieds label Col"u"mbian. I was saying that it is politically correct to spell it with an O. I saw Purivian written as a header for an ad yesterday, I though, well that made up my mind, "I will never buy anything from you".

I was just referenceing that although it was on a classified ad does not make it legit.

Hey, I'm Puerto Rican, 50%. My mom is Puerto Rican, father's name Montalvo, raised in Bayamon.

Pretty cool man.... my family is from Manati. I just menat that if it's a correct spelling from the English dictionary not to worry off the people that want to be politically correct about everything. Everyone has made mistakes in spelling just as long as people know what you mean that is all that matters. Now, if someone did not understnad the genetic make up of the snake they were selling, or give you a history of the animal..... then I would worry.

ChrisGilbert Apr 01, 2005 11:21 PM

Okay, its nice to meet someone else of common ancestry, sort of!

callmedaddie Apr 01, 2005 09:31 PM

If you are from Colombia, you would say que el boa es Colombiano or a Colombian Boa. But since you are from the United States you would say Colombian Boa. Hope this helps. Most people that wish to be politically correct will use Colombian. It really does not matter. Use what you feel comfortable with.

Look at a map, it is named after the country of origin after all

neilm Apr 03, 2005 10:00 PM

Maybe so, but I think it depends where you buy that map. The U.S, or South America. Everone I talk to is convinced their way is right. We need an English teacher with credentials, not all you forum clowns. Lol. I guess I'm a forum clown too now. Never thought I'd see the day.
