I have had these two male yellows (I actually bought both trying to make a pair) for some time and have become attached to them. A friend needs one big male and I could use the room but I can't decide which to let him have.
Neither are show stoppers I guess and
I like both colors equally I think. The lighter of the two is much brighter than pictured.
Which do you like??

Mark I prefer the one on the left. Nice looking snake!

The one on the right looks like it has a little Glades in him. I go with Mr. Good and think you should keep the one on the left.

Those are both great looking snakes.

Personally, I like the look of the darker one.

I have to agree with Dwight, I really like the one on the left as well!! Classic yellow rat, nice straw yellow look and nice thick stripes!! Great looking pair either way, but if it were me, I would keep the one on the left!

I like the more orange because the ones near where I live are more yellow.

So far the vote is 3 yellow and 2 red. I will have to help you out Mark in making a decision so I will say....RED.

Okay so now its a tie. Your back to square one.lol!

.... I'll have to get another. Anyway, I DO have one found in my friend's mice racks but it's smaller and not very pretty at all.

I'll agree with the one on the left, but I'd like to see more photos to make sure. Both are nice looking snakes. Very healthy looking.

I like the one on the right!

Both are nice looking snakes, but the yellow one on the left is an excellent looking Yellow Rat. So that would be my choice.

Hey Mark.I would keep the one that resembles the true yello rat.Although a nice animal, the other male looks like He might have a little everglades orange in him...Good luck,Chip....

kisatchie Apr 05, 2005 04:45 PM

They are both really nice snakes and so what if one is reddish. THey are the same snake anyway, just variable. I'd take the red one

... I guess it's a toss-up as far as a favorite. There is so much natural diversity in these snakes that you're bound to like /dislike one or the other, huh?
You can find either "phase" just about anywhere in their range and often 3 snakes found under the same tin will look different from one another.
There is NO everglades influence in the darker one (Hillsborough co) and I have found many that look like him in central FL.
Not too many are as bright yellow as the other but many are close.
Then there are just "ugly" yellows that are a dark brown almost entirely. Some with stark clean black stripes and some with pale non distinct ones.
Anyway, I DO have everglades rats and I would really want to have two DISTINCT lines. So I may just keep the brighter yellow of the two.
All input is welcomed and appreciated.
How about some pics of yours or ones you've seen.
They really do make great captives.
