has anyone heard Australias export laws may change?

the_brat_prince Apr 02, 2005 03:50 PM

I saw this message in the green tree python forum;
i dont know how familier you all are of the laws in australia as far as owning animals... but the law has just changed... they can now own any exotic they want with a permit... and anyone can get the permit for $35.00

my cousin just told me last night... so i guess i will see how good of a cousin he is... and see if he can get me some GTP's from australia...

i was excited to hear about it... so i hope that some of u are happy too..

I was wondering if anyone knew if they may be lifting the export ban sometime soon or at least in the near future

i just talked to my cousin again today and he said the bill only lasted about 24 hours before it was denied...

What ? Aus. has been one of the MAJOR non-import wildlife countries for how long ?

I can see the aussie government having pressure from citizens to allow exotic animals, but giving into that pressure? Not for a $35 permit! Think how much they spent trying to get rid of the cane toad, and rabbits, and... the list goes on of course.
