gecko fighting

newticus Apr 02, 2005 08:36 PM

i have two cresteds in the same tank. They are juvies and the tank is 10 gals. I will be buying a new 10 gal on monday when i go to work but i was hoping eventually to keep my cresteds together in a 20 gal, do they settle down with age, or am i just going to have to keep an eye on them? cause the tip of one of their tails is all chewed up, i'm actually surpised it didn't drop it's tail.

I don't quite understand, is the tail chewed up because they fight now? If so then they should have already been seperated. If they are both males then they will fight and should be seperated. If they are both female and are not fighting now then they should be fine in a twenty gallon tall. I wouldn't put more than two cresteds in a tank that size. If they are 1.1 (1 male 1 female) then they won't fight, but they will most likely mate. This can be stressful to the female, especially if she becomes gravid, which is a whole other story...

They just started fighting and now the tail is chewed up. As of right now they are both female, but i beleive they are still too young to tell. I'll move them to the 20 if space is the reason they're fighting. I was going to buy a new 10gal if it would be better to wait till they're older to live together.
I hope this helps and sorry for not being clearer.

That is what I thought you meant, but i wasn't sure. If I were you I would seperate them into two tanks, instead of giving them more space. Although the 20g tall has a lot more room than a 10g, I don't think it would be enough to stop them from fighting. I would seperate them until I was sure of their sex (about 20-25 grams). After being sure of the sex i would seperate them permanantly if they were both male, put them together if they are female but keep watch on them, and seperate males from females unless you want the female knocked up. For now though I would keep them seperated. Hope this helps!
