A friend of mine came over today and took some pictures of a few of my animals.

All photos were taken by Charles Escoffery

This is a very pretty yellowish timber.

A very interestingly colored/patterned Deinagkistrodon acutus

Another photo of the same Deinagkistrodon

And here is a neonate Bothrops asper

Let me know what you think of the animals/photos!

He's from Central Arkansas. I've never actually collected a C. horridus from the wild, but every now and then someone brings me one thinking that they're doing a favor. Once they've been collected and exposed to who knows what I just can't risk putting them back. In the last 8 years I've recieved 4 horridus from various locations in the state. I think I've gotten everyone to stop picking them up now (as I'd rather leave this species in the wild, even tho we do have a healthy population).

ahem...don't you mean "atricaudatus"?
Iv'e never seen horridus in the state, in fact, they don't range here!
Now, how's that for opening up a can O' worms? LOL!

My bad Randal

That particular rattlesnake came from down in your neck of the woods... It was either Lonoke or Pulaski County (I have the info, just don't have it handy). It was about 15 inches long when it was brought to me. Kids were playing on a slip and slide in the yard and kept hearing a buzzing noise... Well, this little guy was about 2 feet away from where the kids were going by and was just sitting there rattling every time one of them went by. It was brought to me and has lived with me ever since. Very pretty snake no matter what its called!

That Deinagkistrodon acutus looks absolutely fabulous!
Are thouse just field shots or are they your "pets"?

SnakesAndStuff Apr 03, 2005 01:57 PM

These are just a few animals from my private collection.

phobos Apr 03, 2005 02:44 PM

Well put! Venomous snakes are never "pets".

If you want a pet...get a goldfish, cat or dog.
