Getting a large Dumerils on Tues.

Nippy Apr 02, 2005 09:44 PM

Any tips you guys can give me? He/she is going to arrive in a snake bag in a styro box with heat packs. The shipper said he would be okay in there for a few hours as long as he was kept warm. He will be arriving with my fish order at work. They usually arrive between 8 and 10 in the morning and I work until 3:30-4pm. I can put him in the breakroom(warmest room in the building)in a closet where it will be quiet. Is there any trick to unpackaging a snake or can I just open the bag and say hello!
He's about 44" and they estimate his age between 8-10 years already. Is that a good estimate? He is also still eating live food. At this age, is there any chance I can still get him to switch to frozen?
Also, what do you owners of large Dums feed when they get so big? Rabbits? Guinea pigs? Small neighborhood children? :D j/k
Thanks in advance.

Ideally you should already have a vivarium setup. It should have been monitored and tinkered with for the past few weeks making sure your Dume will have a perfect home to come to. You should already know that you can feed them mice/rates that are as big as they are around.

If you dont hurry and get him in an environment that is almost a recreacreation of what hes used to he will die.

I know i sound like an ass, but i speak from expeirence ive had a dumeril die on me because i was not prepared when i got it.
