03 Gray-Band

Steve_Craig Apr 02, 2005 10:50 PM

Here's a few pics I took tonight of my Gray-Band. I've had him for over a year. Frined of mine picked him up at the Daytona show from Mark & Kim Bell. Never misses a meal and has grown quite nice. I don't know the locality info on him, or if he's a generic locality. Thanks for looking.

Love the busy pattern of black speckling on his head.

Very pretty snake. I had one similar but it escaped. I don't like those lids with a gap in the corner. He was an 04 hatchling and managed to get through the gap.

Awesome looking snake. I think thats an enclosure from herpcages?
How do you like it overall, how does it retain heat , any drwabacks to it?
I am looking into one but also looking into a few other brands. The screen top for light is a big seller for me.
What size do you use?
Thanks.

It is a metal frame top with 1/8 inch wire, and a gap at each corner that would be fine for a larger snake. It is just one for a 10 gallon aquarium. I think even the gray band wouldn't been able to get out if it had a meal in him. He got out the day before feed day. I usually feed my snakes on Saturday morning.

Sorry for this mix up. I posted that question under Steve Craigs post but it got posted under yours because his cage looks like the type of cage I am interested in.
Is that what your refering to you have same cage by herpcages?
I was looking into it to see if good cage.

Yes, I use the Herpcages, or also known as Barr Cages. I use 24 X 12, and for some of my larger snakes, I use 36 x 12. I think they're great cages, excellent price, very light weight and well built. If colubrids is your main focus, they are perfect. I can't give any insight to other brands, as this is the only one that I've used, other then glass aquariums, and I gave up aquariums a long time ago. You can buy some with ventilation at the top, or without. I have both types, giving me a choice of how much or how little humidity I want for a certain snake. Hope that helps,

Steve

Great glad to know this. Do they retain heat well?
Do you use UTH if so no problems warping, etc?
I ask this because have only tanks but going to get all my snakes in larger enclosures for more room their 36 inch size is good but concerned about the heating part since I am not familiar with plastic.
I have looked into other cages but want the option of screen ontop for incandescent light/heat if I want that.

Yes, I use undertank heat pads. They handle the heat well. Some of them I use a human heating pad with three levels of heat you can buy at walmart, and on some of the others I have the zoo med. heating pads. With the zoo med's I use a reostat to control temps because they get way too hot used straight without any type of control device.

I had zoo meds but got rid of them all. They ran hot enough to cook a burger. Ofcourse you use temp controllers which I now use also for my other UTH brand.
I am glad to hear you like herpcages I am going to order the 36 inch style.
thanks a lot.
