Well, I would like to just say Thank you ! Many nice well wishes and critter prayers, and offers ,THis is one special forum of friends thats for sure ,
Now, some of you asked questions, like Sledge, if this has ever happened to me with any of my other lizards before while laying eggs.
NO, NEVER, but she was about 1 week late in laying, and she never went into her nest, she never dug, she just began to lay while standing. She stood with her head hanging and eyes shut the whole time.
I was taking the eggs as she droppped them, as she would move to another spot I was afraid she was going to walk on them and maybe puncture them. She never even noticed I was there so to speak. After a few hours, she had layed 8. I put them all in the incubator.
She still in a half standing stance hung her head to the ground. I thought after what she had been through maybe she needed a drink to hydrate her. Thats when I gave her pedialyte. She lapped a little.
By the time I posted to you guys when I said she was dying she began to gasp, like when something is dying, and they take a big breath and then nothing for a long period.
The whole time leaving her mouth hanging open with her tonuge out. She layed flat out by then.
I tried all last night to give water, held her in my hand in the sink in warm water, nothing. No response, nothing until she gasped a awhile longer, and then nothing she stiffened.
It was very sad, and if she had not layed the eggs I would have said she acted eggbound.
Beyond lethargic, I thought maybe she did have one stuck or something, I felt nothing left in her.
The eggs were big and full, I dont know if they caused some sort of internal damage or what. But this girl was bouncing around the room a few days prior. Even a day prior she was fine.
Anyway gang, hopefully her eggs will all hatch, and I will keep a little girl and name her Chenoa after her pretty MOMMY I think her Mommy would like that!
Thanks to all of you
Chenoa, the last pic I took with her mate Kiowa 3/05
