Glass Dancing

trappercat Apr 03, 2005 02:29 PM

I have a couple of ornate uros that glass dance constantly. They were moved into a 90 gallon tank about 3 weeks ago. Is this something they will stop doing when they finally settle into the new cage or is it something that uros always do?

Thanks and this cage is bigger than the old one they lived in. They have 4 different hides and 3 different basking sites.

don't they do that because they're stuck in a glass box?

Seems like boxes in general. Mine do it in glass, in Vision cages, and also in Rubbermaid style buckets. With as fast as I've seen my Uros move, I expect they have a respectably large range in the wild.

My Uro "glass dances" on the wall in my living room too when he is out to play. It is a 15x16ft room, so I think sometimes that is just what they DO...

something they DO when they're trapped in a box... even a really big one.

they like the heat of the glass against their bellies? Ra glass-dances only on the hot side of the tank, never anywhere else. I touched the glass and it's pretty warm.

I can't believe this thread actually got this long.

Think about it, imagine being an animal that should be running freely in a world with no walls. You live in a box, when you're not in the box, you're in a bigger box (i.e. your owners living room) What would you do?

Even if you (you're still a uromastyx) lived outside in an outside enclosure, you're still confined.

Hey, there is no reason to be offensive! My point was... They did not do it in the smaller tank, but they are now doing it in the big tank.

mine never really glass dance and the other day they were dancing because i had set a package of crickets for my insectivores in their line of vision. once i moved it they stopped, so maybe your guys see something? i forget what the whole post says, but do you cover the backs and sides of the cage, only leaving the front open?
it may be stress from the move but i have no idea if they will ever stop, but is everything but tank size the same? like location, people traffic etc?
