When to expect eggs?

the4thmonkey Apr 03, 2005 03:41 PM

But she worries me because she is not quite 2 years old and is rather petite. She looks somewhat distressed at times and sits with her eyes closed a lot. But she eats a lot, is rapidly getting bigger and has no trouble moving when she wants to. She also sleeps more than usual, but I imagine that is normal. I was out of town but this is the timing: 2 weeks ago Ric noticed she had gotten her red overnight and he brought her here and put her in with Otis. One week ago I saw Otis mate with her. (Poor Otis tried to get Saige first, but she wasn't having any part of it; she has not turned gravid yet.) I have never seen them mate before, but it didn't last very long. I am sure it could have happened other times too, when I didn't see it. I just hope they are going to be fertile! Based on these times, when should I expect eggs?

We may have all come on different ships, but we're in the same boat now.

they usually lay about 21-24 days after turning orange. make sure to have a nice spot of damp sand for her to lay in about 2-3 inches deep. sometimes they will fake you out and dig for practice, like ivan did twice this past egg laying session. getting the girl pinned down may take a while for the boys but the actual mating does not take very long

I could not remember if those times were after getting colors or after mating. I have a couple places damp for her to chose from. She has not started digging yet.
